Video Intermission: “Downtown Love” by G-Eazy (feat. John Michael Rouchell)

JMR’s hook the reason why I kept hitting repeating on G-Eazy’s “Downtown Love”. The rapping didn’t do much to me. Dope beat though.

The video’s mixed color palette that comes in between the rap lyrics and chorus sets an amazing ambiance, driving character out of scenes, as the the camera pans across this heartbreaking story told in panels. Blends Sin City and Wes Anderson quite nicely.

  1. That’s right, this video makes at least half of the impression the song itself left! Couldn’t stop watching it as well. I liked he fact that you noticed the Wes Anderson style, I didn’t until I read it here, it’s quite obvious though. Also nice timing with beats and image change (the moment the chorus starts, for instance), or when the set is in a room and then suddenly we get into the street, water drops on the cupboard foreshadowing us of the scene that comes. All in all, nicely visualized story.
In many of videoclip the makers tend to add a touch of slow-mo. It’s interesting, why? I guess it brings the viewer closer to the action. What do you think?
